The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, Comrade Patrick Osadebamwen, describing his passing as a painful loss to the journalism profession and the nation at large.
In a condolence message, the IGP sympathised with the family of the late journalist, the NUJ, colleagues, and friends, noting that Osadebamwen was a dedicated media professional whose contributions to journalism and national development would be remembered for years to come.
The police chief acknowledged the late NUJ leader’s commitment to ethical journalism, press freedom, and the promotion of responsible reporting, saying his leadership and professional accomplishments left an enduring impact on the media landscape.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s soul and urged members of the media community to take solace in the remarkable legacy he left behind through years of service to the profession and society.
The IGP further assured the bereaved family of the support and solidarity of the Nigeria Police Force during this difficult period, stressing that the late journalist’s dedication to truth, fairness, and public enlightenment earned him widespread respect across various sectors of the country.
He also called on journalists across the nation to honour Osadebamwen’s memory by upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity, values for which the late NUJ chairman was widely known and respected.
