The Miller Dantawaye, Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory, has ordered the redeployment of Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) across the territory in preparation for Saturday’s Area Council elections.
According to a statement released on Friday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, the redeployment follows directives from the Kayode Egbetokun, Inspector General of Police, and forms part of a broader strategy to ensure security and professionalism throughout the electoral exercise.
Commissioner Dantawaye described the measure as proactive, aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and maintaining high standards of impartiality and dedication before, during, and after the elections. He emphasized that all affected officers must perform their duties with fairness and integrity.
The Police Chief reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting the electoral process and ensuring a free, fair, and credible vote. He called on residents of the FCT to remain calm, law-abiding, and actively participate in the democratic process by exercising their civic duties on election day.
Movement restrictions across the territory have been put in place from 8:00 p.m. on Friday until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. The order exempts essential service providers and accredited election officials.
Commissioner Dantawaye urged citizens to stay alert and report any suspicious activities or individuals to the FCT Police Command immediately via emergency contact lines 08032003913 and 08061581938. He stressed that community vigilance is a key component of a successful and secure electoral process.
