ACC Attah John Onoja Named Daily Global’s 2025 Man of the Year for Safeguarding Nigeria’s Economic Security

In a landmark recognition of Nigeria’s economic security efforts, Attah John Onoja, Commander of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Mining Marshals, has been named Daily Global Newspaper’s Man of the Year 2025 – National Economic Security Defender. The award highlights his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to protecting the nation’s solid mineral resources.

Under ACC Onoja’s stewardship, the NSCDC Mining Marshals have intensified regulatory compliance across the extractive sector, ensuring that mining activities align with national laws and environmental standards. His administration has introduced innovative monitoring and enforcement strategies, significantly reducing illegal mining activities that once threatened Nigeria’s resource base.

The Commander has also championed collaboration with state and federal agencies, local communities, and private sector partners to reinforce economic sovereignty and protect Nigeria’s extractive wealth. These initiatives have positioned resource security as a critical pillar of national stability and economic growth.

In addition to enforcement, ACC Onoja has prioritized the professional development of Mining Marshals, equipping them with modern tools, training in intelligence-led operations, and technology-driven monitoring systems. This approach has strengthened operational efficiency, allowing the Corps to respond swiftly to illegal mining incidents and safeguard critical mineral deposits.

Speaking on the award, experts hailed ACC Onoja’s strategies as a blueprint for integrating security, governance, and economic policy. They noted that his leadership ensures that Nigeria’s mineral resources contribute meaningfully to national revenue while protecting communities from the negative impacts of unregulated mining.

The recognition also underscores the broader importance of economic security in national development. By protecting strategic mineral resources, ACC Onoja has contributed to stabilizing local economies, preserving jobs, and maintaining investor confidence in Nigeria’s mining sector.

Beyond his operational achievements, ACC Onoja has been an advocate for transparency and accountability in resource management. He has initiated campaigns to raise public awareness about the value of legal mining and the dangers posed by illegal operations, fostering a culture of compliance and civic responsibility.

The Daily Global accolade not only honours individual excellence but also elevates the profile of Nigeria’s economic security framework. With ACC Attah John Onoja at the helm, the Mining Marshals continue to exemplify professionalism, integrity, and strategic foresight in safeguarding the nation’s mineral wealth.
