The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command, has strengthened its partnership with the Ondo State Government to enhance the development, protection, and security of the state’s Marine and Blue Economy sector.
The collaboration is designed to improve the enforcement of laws and regulations governing maritime and marine activities, including provisions of the Fisheries Act, as well as relevant international conventions and protocols related to maritime operations.
Discussions on the partnership were further advanced during a visit by the Executive Director of Projects of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), Dr. Olujimi Kufo, and members of the Joint Action on the Marine and Blue Economy Team to the NSCDC Ondo State Command Headquarters.
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Kufo underscored the strategic role of NSCDC personnel in providing enforcement support for the initiative, particularly in three critical areas of riverine and coastal engagement: vessel and commuter safety, ecosystem protection, and economic and livelihood support.
According to him, the collaboration will strengthen ongoing efforts to enhance safety on waterways, preserve marine resources, and promote sustainable economic activities across the state’s coastal communities.
In his response, the State Commandant of NSCDC in Ondo State, Commandant Oluyemi Joshua Ibiloye, JP, assured the delegation of the Command’s readiness to work closely with the state government and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the Marine and Blue Economy initiative.
Commandant Ibiloye stressed the importance of inter-agency collaboration in safeguarding marine resources, protecting lives and livelihoods, and creating a secure environment that supports sustainable economic growth and development.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the NSCDC to initiatives that promote security, environmental sustainability, and economic prosperity, noting that the Corps will continue to provide the necessary support to ensure the success of the state’s Marine and Blue Economy agenda.
