CGF Adeyemi Inspects Singa Market Fire Scene, Unveils Plan for Market-Based Fire Stations in Kano

The Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, on Monday, 16 February 2026, visited the scene of the recent fire outbreak at Singa Market in Kano to conduct an on-the-spot assessment and initiate immediate preventive measures, in line with the directive of the Honourable Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
The visit was part of a broader strategy to reinforce fire safety infrastructure across major commercial centres in the state, following the incident which occurred on Saturday. Firefighters remained at the scene carrying out damping-down operations to eliminate any risk of re-ignition.
During the inspection, the Controller General evaluated the emergency response efforts and interacted with personnel on ground. He commended the firefighters and other emergency responders for their professionalism, resilience and swift action in containing the blaze and protecting adjoining properties.
As part of ongoing stakeholder engagement, Adeyemi held separate meetings with the leadership of the Singa Market Development Association (SIMDA) and the Abubakar Rimi Market Traders Association (AMATA), who received him and his delegation. Discussions focused on practical and sustainable measures to minimise fire risks in densely populated trading environments.
Addressing the stakeholders, the CGF conveyed the Minister’s concern over the incident and announced plans to establish strategically located fire stations within major markets across Kano State. He explained that the initiative is aimed at significantly reducing response time and ensuring a permanent emergency presence in key commercial hubs.
He further stressed the importance of sustained collaboration between traders and the Service, noting that effective fire prevention depends on shared responsibility, prompt reporting of emergencies and strict compliance with safety regulations.
Leaders of SIMDA and AMATA welcomed the initiative and pledged their full cooperation with the Federal Fire Service to promote safer and more resilient market environments.
