The Federal Fire Service and the Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria (ACAN) have agreed to strengthen collaboration aimed at promoting ethics, integrity, transparency, and anti-corruption compliance within the Service.
This resolution was reached during a courtesy visit by the management team of ACAN, the training arm of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), to the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, at the Service Headquarters in Area 10, Garki, Abuja.
The ACAN delegation, led by its Director, Garba Tukur Idris, explained that the visit was to formalise cooperation in the areas of integrity education, ethical reorientation, and institutional reforms driven by transparency. He stated that the Academy remains committed to strengthening public institutions through structured training programmes, seminars, workshops, and symposiums designed to enhance accountability and prevent corruption.
According to him, while ethics and anti-corruption training are essential for personnel at all levels, members of the management cadre would particularly benefit from specialised programmes focusing on ethical leadership, accountability, and institutional transparency. He emphasised that proactive education is one of the most effective and sustainable approaches to preventing corruption, protecting public resources, and promoting responsible governance.
In his response, the Controller General commended ACAN for what he described as a strategic and forward-looking initiative. He affirmed that integrity, transparency, and value for money are fundamental principles for a disciplined and service-oriented organisation such as the Federal Fire Service.
He noted that strengthening ethical standards within the Service would enhance operational efficiency, boost public confidence, and ensure prudent management of resources. He stressed that integrity must extend beyond official duties to personal conduct and societal engagement, as public servants are custodians of national trust.
The Controller General further observed that transparency within emergency response agencies plays a vital role in national development by improving service delivery, ensuring accountability in procurement and operations, and promoting the optimal use of public funds.
He added that the partnership aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which prioritises institutional reform, transparency, and strengthened governance systems. By embracing comprehensive ethics and anti-corruption training, the Federal Fire Service reinforces its commitment to national reform objectives and the promotion of accountability within the public sector.
Additionally, the Controller General proposed expanding cooperation to include fire safety awareness programmes within the Academy’s training school. He emphasised the importance of equipping staff and students with essential fire prevention and safety knowledge, thereby broadening public enlightenment efforts and fostering a stronger safety culture nationwide.
