Federal Fire Service, Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria Forge Strategic Partnership to Deepen Ethics and Transparency


The Federal Fire Service (FFS) and the Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria (ACAN) have agreed to establish a structured partnership aimed at strengthening ethics, integrity, transparency, and anti-corruption compliance within the Service.
The resolution was reached during a courtesy visit by the management team of ACAN—the training arm of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC)—to the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Engr. Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, at the Service Headquarters in Area 10, Garki, Abuja.
The ACAN delegation, led by its Director, Garba Tukur Idris, stated that the visit was intended to formalize collaboration in integrity education, ethical reorientation, and transparency-driven institutional reforms. He explained that the Academy remains committed to strengthening public institutions through structured training programmes, seminars, workshops, and symposiums designed to promote corruption prevention and robust accountability mechanisms.
According to the Director, while anti-corruption and transparency courses are essential for officers and personnel at all levels, members of the management cadre would particularly benefit from specialized training in ethics, leadership accountability, and institutional transparency. He emphasized that proactive education is one of the most sustainable strategies for preventing corruption, protecting public resources, and fostering responsible governance.
In his response, the Controller General commended the Academy for what he described as a timely and forward-looking initiative. He affirmed that integrity, transparency, and value for money are fundamental principles for a disciplined and service-driven organization such as the Federal Fire Service.
He noted that strengthening ethical standards within the Service would enhance operational efficiency, boost public confidence, and ensure the prudent management of resources. According to him, integrity must go beyond official duties and be reflected in personal conduct, family life, and broader societal engagements, as public servants are custodians of national trust.
The Controller General further observed that transparency within emergency response agencies plays a vital role in national development by improving service delivery, ensuring accountability in procurement and operations, and promoting the optimal use of public funds.
He added that the collaboration aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which prioritizes institutional reform, transparency, and strengthened governance systems. By embracing comprehensive ethics and anti-corruption training, the Federal Fire Service reaffirms its commitment to national reform objectives and the promotion of accountability across the public sector.
Additionally, the Controller General proposed expanding the partnership to include fire safety awareness programmes within the Academy’s training school. He underscored the importance of equipping staff and students with fire prevention and safety knowledge, thereby extending public enlightenment efforts and fostering a safety-conscious culture across institutions.
