The Zonal Controller, Zone P, covering Nasarawa and Plateau States, CF Hajara S. Zukogi, has delivered a comprehensive lecture on the newly introduced Performance Management System (PMS) to officers and personnel of the Federal Fire Service, Nasarawa State Command, Lafia.
In her address, the Zonal Controller formally introduced the PMS policy, describing it as a transformational initiative and a strategic roadmap designed to align the Service with the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. She emphasized that, in line with the statutory mandate of the Federal Fire Service, the prevention of fire incidents must remain a top priority through enhanced responsibility, efficiency, and improved workplace performance.
CF Zukogi explained that, unlike the Annual Performance Evaluation Report (APER), which is conducted once a year, performance under the PMS will be assessed on a weekly and monthly basis. She noted that the new system encourages active collaboration between supervisors and supervisees in achieving organizational goals, eliminates biases often associated with traditional appraisal systems, and adopts objective and measurable evaluation criteria.
The Zonal Controller further provided an in-depth presentation on effective PMS implementation, outlining a clear framework for leadership and offering detailed insights into the appraisal structure under the new policy. She stressed that successful implementation would require commitment, accountability, and teamwork at all levels of the Service.
To ensure smooth and effective implementation of the PMS, a seven-member Core PMS Team was inaugurated. In addition, a four-member Human Resources (HR) Team and an 18-member Change Champions Team were constituted, while the PRS Department is still undergoing restructuring. All teams were given clear directives to drive the policy’s successful execution across the Command.
The lecture concluded with remarks by the State Controller, DCF Nwachukwu Eno Kelechi, who expressed profound appreciation to the Zonal Controller for the step-down training and her thorough presentation of the new policy framework.
