The Chairman of Igbo-Etiti Local Government, Mr. Odo, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening security, stating that no meaningful development can take place in an atmosphere of insecurity.
Speaking at the commissioning of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Area Command and Divisional Headquarters in the council area, Odo said responsible governance requires the protection of lives and property as a foundation for progress.
“As a responsible government, we understand that no meaningful progress or development can take place in a chaotic and insecure environment,” he said. “No investor, whether local or foreign, will invest even a dime in a place where the security of lives and property is not guaranteed.”
He described the commissioning of the NSCDC facilities as a clear demonstration of his administration’s determination to strengthen security architecture in Igbo-Etiti. According to him, the development serves as a strong warning that no part of the local government will remain a soft target or safe haven for criminals.
Odo noted that the establishment of the security formations is one of the ways his administration has fulfilled its promise to provide adequate security for the people of Igbo-Etiti. “We are not just solving today’s problems; we are protecting future generations,” he added.
He further assured that the local government would provide regular maintenance and logistical support to the commands. He also disclosed plans to strengthen joint security task forces where necessary, expand digital reporting channels, enhance community-based intelligence gathering mechanisms, and continue investing in peace-building initiatives and youth empowerment programmes.
The chairman stressed that security is a shared responsibility and called on community leaders, traditional rulers and youth groups to collaborate with security agencies in sustaining peace across the local government area.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities, assuring them that the council would continue to prioritise proactive measures aimed at preventing crime.
Odo reiterated that his administration remains committed to building a safe and stable environment that will attract investment, stimulate economic growth and improve the overall quality of life for the people of Igbo-Etiti.
