Tunji-Ojo Reaffirms Nigeria’s Strategic Partnership With Turkey During Ambassador’s Visit


The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening its strategic relationship with Turkey, describing the country as a valued partner with shared interests and similar developmental challenges. He made this known while receiving the newly appointed Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria, H.E. Mehmet Poroy, in his office.
During the courtesy visit, Tunji-Ojo and the Turkish envoy held productive discussions aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation between both countries. The meeting provided an opportunity to review existing ties and explore new areas of collaboration that align with Nigeria’s national priorities.
The Interior Minister emphasised the importance of mutual respect, understanding and sustained engagement as the foundation for a stronger Nigeria–Turkey relationship. He noted that both nations share comparable experiences in security management, governance and development, which could serve as a basis for enhanced cooperation.
Both parties expressed optimism that closer ties would create a more enabling environment for trade, investment and economic exchanges. They also underscored the need to promote people-to-people relations as a means of strengthening cultural bonds and fostering long-term partnerships.
Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed the Federal Government’s readiness to work closely with Turkey to translate diplomatic engagements into tangible benefits for citizens of both countries. The meeting ended with a shared commitment to sustained dialogue and collaboration in pursuit of mutual growth and development.
