Armed Forces Day: Federal, State Governments Applaud Troops’ Courage and Selfless Service

The Federal Government and state governors have commended officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces for their unwavering commitment and sacrifices in the defence of the nation. The tributes were paid during Armed Forces Day activities held across the country to honour fallen heroes and celebrate the bravery of serving personnel.
At the national observance, the Federal Government acknowledged the resilience and professionalism displayed by the military in tackling terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other security challenges. It noted that despite operating under difficult conditions, the Armed Forces have continued to uphold national unity and territorial integrity.
Government officials also highlighted the expanding role of the military in supporting civil authorities, particularly in disaster response, humanitarian assistance and peacekeeping operations. These contributions, they said, have strengthened public trust and demonstrated the Armed Forces’ relevance beyond traditional combat duties.
In separate statements, state governors praised the gallantry of troops deployed in their states, describing them as indispensable partners in efforts to restore peace and stability. They recognised the heavy toll of military operations and acknowledged the sacrifices made by soldiers and their families.
Several governors called for improved welfare and motivation for troops, stressing the need for better housing, healthcare and prompt payment of entitlements. They emphasised that sustained investment in personnel welfare and modern equipment would enhance operational effectiveness.
Across the country, remembrance ceremonies were held where wreaths were laid in honour of soldiers who lost their lives in active service. The events served as solemn reminders of the price paid to secure peace and safeguard the nation.
As Armed Forces Day was marked nationwide, both the Federal Government and the states reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the military through increased funding, capacity building and inter-agency cooperation. They expressed confidence that with continued support, the Armed Forces would remain a cornerstone of Nigeria’s security and stability.
