Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 13 Brigade have successfully rescued 18 passengers, including two infants, after a passenger boat was hijacked while travelling from Nigeria to Cameroon. The incident occurred on January 11, 2026, along the busy cross-border waterway.
Military sources said the soldiers swiftly mobilised after receiving intelligence on the hijacking, launching a coordinated operation to track the attackers and secure the safety of the passengers. The timely intervention forced the assailants to abandon the boat and flee, allowing the troops to regain control of the vessel.
All rescued passengers were safely recovered without injuries and have since been reunited with relevant authorities for further assistance. The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining security along Nigeria’s waterways and border routes, assuring the public of continued operations to protect lives and property.
