Security Surge: 1,000 Officers Flooded Into Borno Following Deadly Mosque Blast

In a swift reaction to the devastating bombing of a local mosque, the Borno State Police Command has launched a massive security operation, deploying over 1,000 additional officers across Maiduguri and other high risk zones. The deployment follows Wednesday’s tragic explosion at the Al Adum Mosque in the Gamboru Market area. The blast, which occurred during evening Maghrib prayers, claimed five lives and left 35 worshippers injured.

Speaking on Thursday, State Police Public Relations Officer ASP Nahum Daso explained that while security was already tight for the festive season, the recent attack necessitated an immediate escalation. He noted that security forces are now stationed at churches, recreational centers, and major streets to ensure public safety. Every individual entering a place of worship—whether a mosque or a church—will be subjected to thorough electronic scanning and physical clearance. The police are working in tandem with multiple emergency and security response agencies to maintain a standby status.

ASP Daso stated that the command is making arrangements more intense and has deployed over 1,000 personnel within Maiduguri to ensure full domination of strategic locations where people gather. Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, also strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a barbaric and inhumane act that desecrates the sanctity of prayer. The Governor expressed his condolences to the families of all those who lost their lives and promised that the state would not be intimidated, as security measures are firmly in place to protect citizens throughout the festive season and beyond.

The police command has urged the public to remain calm but highly vigilant. Residents are advised to continue their lawful activities while remaining mindful of their surroundings and to immediately report any suspicious individuals or unattended items to security agencies. Authorities have requested that citizens utilize designated emergency numbers for rapid response to ensure the continued safety of the community.
