Commandant Brah Seeks Stronger Collaboration With Scrap and Waste Dealers to Prevent Criminal Infiltration

The Nasarawa State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), led by Commandant Brah Samson Umoru, today received members of the National Association of Scrap and Waste Dealers Employers of Nigeria, Nasarawa State Chapter, at the Command Headquarters in Lafia.

The delegation, headed by the State Chairman and North Central Zonal President of the Association, Alhaji Abdullahi Tsoho, paid the courtesy visit to deepen cooperation with the Corps in addressing growing concerns over criminal elements operating under the cover of scrap and waste businesses.

In his address, Commandant Brah Samson Umoru expressed gratitude for the visit, describing it as timely, especially in light of rising cases of vandalism, theft of critical national assets—including facilities within educational institutions—and other illegal activities linked to impostors posing as scrap or waste dealers.

He reiterated the Corps’ determination to collaborate with legitimate operators to sanitize the sector and eliminate criminals who tarnish the image of genuine practitioners. He further emphasized the NSCDC’s unwavering mandate to safeguard critical national assets and infrastructure, adding that sustained collaboration with relevant stakeholders is essential to achieving long-term success.

Earlier, Alhaji Abdullahi Tsoho commended Commandant Brah for his proactive leadership and reaffirmed the Association’s readiness to work with the Corps in profiling, verifying, and identifying genuine members. This, he noted, will help isolate and remove “bad eggs” whose activities endanger the industry and wider society.

He also stated that the Association is prepared to strengthen internal monitoring systems and adhere fully to regulatory frameworks that promote accountability, transparency, and responsible practice.

The meeting ended with a shared commitment to establish a robust partnership framework, improve intelligence sharing, and develop joint strategies to combat criminal activities while ensuring a safer and more regulated environment for all legitimate scrap
