Lieutenant A.M. Yerima, the Nigerian Navy officer recently involved in a confrontation with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has reportedly evaded an attempted trailing by unidentified individuals in Abuja on Monday night.
Sources disclosed that two unmarked Hilux vans without number plates allegedly followed the officer from the NIPCO Filling Station along the Kubwa Expressway to Gado Nasco Way. Yerima was said to have noticed the suspicious movement and executed swift defensive maneuvers to escape.
The incident, which occurred at about 6:30 p.m., has been reported to security authorities who have since begun investigations. A source familiar with the case noted that details are being kept confidential due to the sensitive nature of the investigation.
Yerima had earlier been embroiled in a heated encounter with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike over a disputed demolition operation in Abuja, a development that has attracted widespread public reactions.
Meanwhile, the Presidency has reportedly stepped in, leading to the withdrawal of demolition equipment earlier deployed to the contentious land at Gaduwa District.
