The Police Service Commission (PSC) has deployed its staff monitors across the three senatorial zones of Anambra State to oversee police activities during Saturday’s governorship election.
The National Coordinator and Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), mni, cautioned officers on election duty to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, impartiality, and discipline. He emphasized that police personnel must protect both electoral officials and materials, while also ensuring a peaceful and enabling environment for voters to exercise their rights without intimidation or obstruction.
Argungu warned that any officer who violates the rules of engagement or compromises their duty will face strict sanctions.
He further described the Anambra election as a crucial test case for the Nigeria Police Force as the nation moves toward the 2027 general elections.
The PSC Chairman commended the Anambra State Police Command and its Commissioner, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, PhD, for their proactive preparations. Argungu assured that the Commission would recognize and commend officers who demonstrate professionalism and integrity during the election while taking disciplinary action against those found wanting.
The PSC monitoring teams will operate from Awka, the state capital, and across the three senatorial districts of Anambra State.
