The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has applauded the Northern Traditional Rulers Council for their steadfast commitment to peace, unity, and national stability.
He gave the commendation in a goodwill message at the Northern Traditional Rulers’ Council General Assembly held on Tuesday, 21 October 2025, in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.
General Musa congratulated His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto and Chairman of the Council, along with other respected traditional leaders, describing the theme of the assembly, “Strengthening Community Collaboration for Lasting Peace and Security in Northern Nigeria,” as timely and impactful. He emphasized that traditional institutions are vital custodians of culture, morality, and communal harmony — key ingredients for sustaining peace and stability.
According to him, traditional rulers remain the foundation of governance and serve as the closest link between government and the people. He praised their crucial roles in mediation, conflict resolution, and intelligence sharing, noting that their continuous support has greatly contributed to the success of military operations across different regions.
General Musa stressed that peace and security cannot be enforced by force but must be built through trust, dialogue, and collaboration. He therefore called for a collective approach that includes traditional institutions, youth and women groups, religious leaders, and government agencies in countering violence and promoting tolerance and unity.
Reassuring the Council of the Armed Forces’ commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity and protecting its citizens, General Musa expressed gratitude for the continued cooperation from traditional rulers. He urged for sustained partnership to achieve enduring peace and development in Northern Nigeria and across the country.
He further commended the Northern Traditional Rulers Council for its visionary leadership and dedication to the growth and progress of the region, expressing optimism that the Assembly would strengthen partnerships and inspire renewed hope for peace and unity.
Earlier, during a visit to the Kebbi State Government House, the CDS lauded the developmental strides of the state government and expressed delight at being in Kebbi, which he described as “home.” He thanked the Governor for the government’s consistent support to the Armed Forces and other security agencies, noting that such collaboration is key to successful security operations.
In response, the Executive Governor of Kebbi State praised the Armed Forces for their tireless efforts in maintaining peace and stability across the state. He reaffirmed the state’s support for security operations, citing recent provision of vehicles and logistics to security agencies. The Governor also appreciated the deployment of armoured vehicles and special forces to combat insecurity in the region, describing General Musa’s leadership as exemplary.
Meanwhile, the CDS is also scheduled to attend the grand finale of the General Christopher Musa Peace and Unity Cup 2025 at the FIFA Goal Project Stadium, Birnin Kebbi. The tournament, which promotes peace and social cohesion, features participants from Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara States, with the Governor of Kebbi State expected to attend the closing ceremony.
