Odumosu Advocates Stronger Insurance Protection for NSCDC Personnel

The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory Command, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, has called for enhanced insurance coverage for officers and men of the Corps, stressing that they face daily risks while safeguarding lives and property.

Odumosu made the appeal on Friday during a one-day sensitisation workshop on insurance, held at the Command Headquarters in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.

He emphasised that insurance is a vital component of personnel welfare due to the high-risk nature of NSCDC operations, which include managing civil unrest, combating insurgency, tackling banditry, and confronting armed pipeline vandals.

“Insurance is extremely important for officers and men of the Corps because of the dangerous and unpredictable nature of their duties,” Odumosu stated.

He noted that as a paramilitary organisation, the NSCDC must continuously educate its personnel on various government-initiated insurance schemes, including life, accident, hazard, and investment-linked policies that provide financial security during and after service.

“Government, as part of its moral and legal responsibility, has introduced policies to protect those who protect others by providing adequate insurance coverage as a key aspect of occupational welfare and human rights,” he said.

Odumosu explained that insurance offers financial protection in cases of injury, disability, or death arising from duty-related incidents, ensuring that affected officers or their families are not left stranded.

He commended the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, for his commitment to staff welfare through the introduction and implementation of several insurance initiatives across the country.

“The Commandant General has shown exemplary leadership by ensuring that cheques worth hundreds of millions of naira are presented to families of fallen heroes and accident victims within the Corps,” Odumosu remarked.

He further praised the CG for ensuring prompt payment of insurance benefits, a gesture that has greatly boosted officers’ morale nationwide.

The FCT Commandant also urged all Heads of Departments, Area Commanders, and Divisional Officers to share the knowledge gained from the workshop with their subordinates, ensuring that every officer is informed and benefits from available welfare policies.

Odumosu appealed to insurance operators to maintain transparency and integrity in their dealings with security agencies and to remove bureaucratic bottlenecks that often delay the processing of insurance benefits.

“I urge insurance providers to simplify their procedures and provide officers with accurate information to help them make informed choices,” he concluded.

The workshop brought together senior officers, Area Commanders, Divisional Officers, and Heads of Departments from across the FCT Command.
