Gunmen Murder Abuja Veterinary Doctor, Abduct His Three Children

Tragedy struck in Abuja as armed men killed a prominent veterinary doctor, Dr. Ifeanyi Ogbu, and abducted his three children during an overnight attack on his home in the Kubwa district along the Kubwa–Kaduna expressway.

Dr. Ogbu, a former chairman of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), FCT Chapter, was reportedly taken away by the assailants alongside his three children on Friday night. His lifeless body was later discovered by the roadside.

The sad development was confirmed by a colleague, Andrew Gabriel Ikechukwu, who announced the doctor’s death in a Facebook post.

“Dr. Ifeanyi Ogbu, the immediate past chairman of the NVMA FCT chapter, who was kidnapped alongside his three children from his home in Kubwa, Abuja, has been found dead. The three children are yet to be released. May God please intervene,” Ikechukwu wrote.

Late Dr. Ogbu was described as a dedicated professional and compassionate family man. He is survived by his wife, who is reportedly nursing, and other grieving family members.

Colleagues and friends have expressed shock and sorrow over his death, describing it as a devastating blow to both his family and the veterinary community.

Efforts are ongoing to rescue his abducted children, while the FCT Police Command has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident. Attempts to reach police authorities for comments through calls and WhatsApp messages proved unsuccessful as of press time.

The killing comes barely a week after the death of Arise News journalist Somtochukwu Maduagwu, who was shot during a robbery in Katampe, another area of Abuja raising fresh concerns about rising insecurity in the nation’s capital.
