The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Jigawa State Command, says it has begun a manhunt for criminals who attacked a rented hostel housing male students of Bilyaminu Usman Polytechnic (BUPoly), Hadejia.
The incident occurred on Thursday at an off-campus hostel located along the Hadejia–Malam-Madori road. Armed with dangerous local knives, the assailants reportedly stormed the building, dispossessed the students of their phones and other valuables, and left residents in fear.
“We are actively pursuing leads and conducting investigations following the incident at the polytechnic students’ hostel,” Tijjani stated, Tijjani Badarudden, NSCDC Spokesperson said.
He noted that the attackers were suspected local criminals who exploited the late hours of the night to carry out the assault.
Although no arrests have been made yet, the spokesperson stressed that intelligence gathering within the community is yielding positive results.
“The information we are receiving from residents is very helpful to our efforts,” he said.
Tijjani further disclosed that NSCDC has increased patrols and mounted additional security checks around the institution to prevent further incidents. He urged students and residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements.
He also appealed for public cooperation in providing information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects, assuring that justice will be served.
“Efforts are ongoing to ensure the perpetrators are brought to book swiftly and to restore peace of mind to the affected students and community,” he confirmed.
The attack has heightened concerns over the safety of student accommodations around BUPoly, prompting renewed calls for stronger security measures in the area.
