Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, sustained relentless pressure on insurgents during Operation Desert Sanity IV between 19 and 24 September 2025, recording notable gains in Borno and Adamawa States.
Within the week, security forces intercepted 21 jerricans of smuggled fuel across Mubi axis, seized large quantities of urea fertilizer at Mubi Central Market, neutralised a terrorist in an ambush near Alau Dam, and arrested two key suspects: a 54-year-old logistics supplier and a 31-year-old Boko Haram fighter. These operations significantly disrupted insurgents’ supply chains and weakened their ability to produce Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
Highlights include the seizure of fuel on three different occasions by troops of 232 Battalion (Tactical) and Sector 4 Special Forces between 19 and 24 September in Vintim, Fillin Ball–Gella road, and Tsamiya, all within Adamawa State. On 21 and 24 September, soldiers also uncovered abandoned fertilizer stockpiles in Mubi Market, as suppliers fled on sighting troops.
In Borno, 73 Battalion (Motorised), working with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and Hybrid Forces, mounted a successful ambush on 22 September at Kolori Karumi near Alau Dam, killing a suspected Boko Haram scout. The following day, troops of 112 Task Force Battalion at Forward Operating Base Ngwom apprehended Thomas James (54) with 23 bottles of smuggled fuel en route to Gamboru Ngala. Investigations confirmed his link to insurgent logistics networks. On 24 September, another arrest was made in Garkida, Gombi LGA, where Ahmadu Buba (31)—a confessed Boko Haram member—was captured after intelligence-led operations. He admitted to joining the group in April 2025 and participating in attacks in Damboa axis, including the destruction of Mandahuma Bridge.
The Military High Command commended troops for their bravery and effectiveness, urging them to maintain the aggressive posture and operational tempo that continues to degrade terrorist capabilities in the region.
