The Federal Fire Service (FFS), Osun State Command, has trained no fewer than 5,300 recruits of the Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo, on fire safety, prevention and emergency response as part of efforts to strengthen disaster preparedness and enhance safety consciousness among security personnel.
The training exercise, conducted on Friday, July 24, 2026, underscores the Service’s commitment to promoting a safer and more resilient Nigeria through strategic collaboration with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies.
Designed to equip the recruits with the knowledge and practical skills needed to prevent, respond to and effectively manage fire-related emergencies, the programme featured comprehensive lectures and hands-on firefighting demonstrations.
The lecture session was facilitated by DSF Adegboyega Hammed, who provided detailed insights into fire prevention measures, emergency response procedures, basic firefighting techniques and critical safety practices. The practical component of the training was led by the Operations Commander of the Osun State Command, DSF R.B. Omisore, who demonstrated the proper use of firefighting equipment and effective response strategies during fire incidents.
The interactive nature of the exercise enabled the recruits to apply the lessons learned and demonstrate a sound understanding of fire safety principles and emergency response procedures.
Military authorities commended the Federal Fire Service, Osun State Command, for its professionalism and technical expertise, describing the training as a vital component of the recruits’ overall preparedness for handling emergency situations.
Speaking on the initiative, the Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service, Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, reiterated the Service’s dedication to fostering stronger partnerships with the Armed Forces and other key institutions in advancing public safety and national resilience.
He also called on Nigerians to view fire safety as a collective responsibility by adhering to preventive measures, reporting fire incidents promptly and supporting ongoing public safety campaigns.
