The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), under the leadership of President Dr. Farouk Kabir Umar, launched its 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) with a vital community outreach program, providing Basic Life Support (BLS) training to over 100 personnel of the 8 Division Nigerian Army at Giginya Barracks, Sokoto.
The hands-on, intensive training took place on the opening day of the AGM and aimed to equip soldiers with critical life-saving techniques. This initiative significantly enhances the troops’ ability to respond effectively to medical emergencies both in operational theaters and within the communities they serve. The program reflects the NMA’s ongoing commitment to forging strategic partnerships that promote health, safety, and resilience nationwide.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division, represented by Brigadier General Moses Ikobah, Commander of the 78 Supply and Transport Brigade, praised the NMA’s impactful contribution. He described the training as “a game-changer for our troops’ emergency response capabilities,” adding, “It will strengthen life-saving skills within our ranks and in the communities we protect. We are deeply grateful to the NMA for their expertise and generosity.”
In his remarks, Dr. Farouk Kabir Umar reaffirmed the NMA’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s armed forces. “We are honored to partner with the 8 Division on this life-saving initiative,” he said. “Providing our soldiers with these essential skills is an investment in the health and security of our nation. The NMA is dedicated to sustaining this collaboration and advancing programs that improve the well-being of both the military and the broader community.”
Looking ahead, the 8 Division Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Medical Association are set to deepen their collaboration, working together to strengthen health, safety, and emergency preparedness throughout the region.
