The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Plateau State, Ishaku Musa, has issued a clarion call for heightened vigilance and increased environmental awareness among operatives to effectively combat rising security challenges in the state.

Speaking at a security coordination meeting held recently in Jos, the state capital, Musa emphasized that the growing threat of criminality including armed banditry, vandalism of critical infrastructure, and communal clashes requires proactive and sustained efforts by all security personnel. He underscored the vital role NSCDC operatives play in preventing crimes before they occur through keen observation and timely reporting.

“Security is not just about response; it begins with prevention,” Musa said. “Every operative must step up their vigilance and remain constantly alert to their environment. Being sensitive to unusual movements, suspicious persons, or activities can save lives and protect property.”

Musa further urged operatives to deepen community engagement, recognizing that intelligence from local residents often serves as the first line of defense against criminal elements. He called for stronger partnerships between NSCDC operatives and community leaders, vigilante groups, and other security agencies to enhance information sharing and joint operations.

“The success of our security efforts depends largely on collaboration. Communities are our eyes and ears on the ground, and we must build trust to encourage them to report suspicious activities promptly,” Musa added.

Acknowledging the dynamic nature of security threats, the NSCDC Commandant stressed the importance of continuous training and capacity development. He announced plans to intensify training programs aimed at equipping operatives with modern surveillance techniques, conflict resolution skills, and intelligence gathering methods necessary for addressing emerging challenges.

In addition, Musa highlighted the need for operatives to adhere strictly to discipline and professionalism, ensuring that their conduct fosters public confidence in the Corps.

“We must lead by example, uphold integrity, and demonstrate unwavering commitment to our duties,” he said.

The Commandant reassured that the NSCDC in Plateau State would maintain a robust presence across all local government areas, prioritizing the protection of critical national assets such as power plants, pipelines, communication infrastructure, and other key installations vulnerable to sabotage.

In closing, Ishaku Musa called on all security agencies operating in Plateau State to foster greater synergy and coordination, emphasizing that a united front is crucial in restoring and maintaining peace in the state.

“The challenges are significant, but together we can overcome them,” he concluded.
