Nigerian Army Deploys Troops to Olle-Bunu to Forestall Banditry, Sends Strong Warning to Criminal Collaborators

In a decisive move to curb the rising threat of banditry, the Nigerian Army has deployed troops from the 12 Brigade to Olle-Bunu in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State. This strategic deployment follows credible intelligence indicating that fleeing armed bandits were attempting to infiltrate the area.

The operation was formalized during a visit to the community by the State Security Adviser, Commander Duro Jerry Omodara (Rtd), who delivered a firm message: “Kogi will not cede an inch of its territory to criminals.”

Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, who disclosed the development, said the deployment aligns with Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s broader strategy to ensure the safety of lives and property across the state. With security improvements recorded in Odo-Ape, a previously volatile flashpoint, Olle-Bunu has now become a potential escape route for displaced criminal groups.

During a meeting with traditional rulers, youth leaders, and other community stakeholders, Commander Omodara emphasized that those aiding criminals whether as informants, transporters, or shelter providers would be treated as enemies of the state.

“This operation goes beyond pursuing bandits,” Omodara stated. “It is a clear message that wherever criminals flee, we will find them. Our goal is to make every community secure for growth, for our children, and for our collective future.”

A temporary forward operating base has been established in Olle-Bunu, with increased patrols and surveillance by the Nigerian Army. Representing the Brigade Commander, Major Usman Mohammed reaffirmed the army’s preparedness to tackle emerging threats and commended the state government for its continuous support.

In response, the local community expressed strong support for the initiative. Speaking on behalf of the Olle-Bunu residents, Elder John Ebajemito thanked Governor Ododo for his proactive leadership and pledged full cooperation with security agencies.

“This government has demonstrated that security is a priority,” Elder Ebajemito said. “We are committed to ensuring that no criminal finds a safe haven in our land.”
