In a determined effort to bolster compliance with mining rules and regulations across Nasarawa State, the Solid Minerals and Development Unit of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nasarawa State Command, convened a high-level strategic meeting with the Miners Association of Nigeria (MAN), Nasarawa State Chapter.
The meeting, held at the Command Headquarters in Lafia, focused on deepening collaboration between the Corps and critical mining stakeholders in the state, with a strong emphasis on the enforcement of regulatory frameworks, responsible mining practices, and the protection of national mineral assets.
Speaking during the engagement, the Head of the Solid Minerals and Development Unit Deputy Commandant Matthew Adegboye Adewale reiterated the commitment of the Corps under the leadership of Commandant Muhammed Kabiru Ingawa to promote sanity in the solid minerals sector. He emphasized the need for all mining operators to strictly adhere to established laws, especially those governing licensing, community consent, blasting permits, and environmental safety.
Commandant Ingawa reaffirmed its resolve to act as a neutral regulator and protector of critical national assets, while also supporting genuine investors operating within the legal framework of the Federal Government.
The Chairman of Miners Association of Nigeria, Nasarawa State Chapter, _Alhaji Yusuf Dalhatu Randal in his remarks, commended the NSCDC for its proactive, non-combative and non-kinetic approach to law enforcement, stating that the partnership between the Corps and the Association is vital to curbing illegal mining, preventing environmental degradation, and resolving disputes between miners and host communities.
He reiterate the importance of strengthening joint monitoring team to mining sites to detect and deter illegal operations.
Promoting awareness campaigns among miners on legal compliance.
Creating a sustainable conflict resolution mechanism involving landowners, mining cooperatives, and government agencies.
Encouraging proper documentation and community engagement by licensed operators.
This meeting marks another bold step in aligning security and regulatory functions with economic development in Nasarawa State’s mining sector.
