As part of ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and security of schools across Benue State, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Benue State Command, under the leadership of the State Commandant, Commandant Bitrus Alice Larai, has continued its sensitization campaign through the Female Strike Force.
Led by CSC Caroline Ujah, the Female Strike Force recently visited Arabic College, Lobi Quarters, Makurdi, with a student population of approximately 242, to educate students, teachers, and administrators on critical safety measures aimed at creating a secure and conducive learning environment.
This initiative forms part of the State Commandant’s proactive approach to security management—revamping operational strategies and strengthening community engagement to address prevailing security threats in and around schools.
During the sensitization session, the team emphasized several key measures including: The importance of controlled access to school premises, Installation of proper perimeter fencing, Deployment of trained security guards at entry points, Implementation of a strict gate pass system for students, teachers, and visitors, Engagement of host communities in the overall school security plan, Establishment of effective emergency alert systems.
The Strike Force also educated participants on the dangers of cultism, bullying, drug abuse, physical violence, sexual harassment, and other forms of gender-based violence. In order to ensure maximum understanding and inclusivity, the lectures were delivered in Hausa language.
Speaking on behalf of the school, Mallam Abdullahi Sani, Principal of Arabic College, expressed deep appreciation for the Corps’ efforts, noting the immense value of the information shared.
“We are grateful for this initiative and assure the NSCDC of our continued cooperation in fostering a safe and secure learning environment for our students,” he said.
