Why Our Kano Outpost Was Attacked – NSCDC

The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has given details and offered clarification regarding a recent incident involving its outpost in the Gwazaye area of Kumbotso Local Government Area.

According to a statement from the command’s spokesperson, SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, the events that led to the attack began on the evening of Monday, June 2, 2025, around 8:00 p.m.

He explained that two knife-wielding suspects attempted to snatch a mobile phone from a local resident who was on a call at the time.

“According to eyewitness account, a member of local vigilante in the area, while the thug was attempting to snatch the phone he was overpowered by the victim ( resident) and in the process the hoodlum (now late) got stabbed in the neck.”

Eyewitnesses told security operatives that a local vigilante member was nearby during the struggle. In the scuffle that followed, the intended victim reportedly overpowered one of the attackers, who then sustained a fatal stab wound to the neck during the altercation.

In the aftermath, the resident—alongside three others from the neighborhood—proceeded to report the incident at the NSCDC outpost in Semegu, which also falls under Kumbotso LGA.

However, things took a disturbing turn, shortly after, a group of armed individuals stormed the office, mistakenly believing that NSCDC personnel were involved in the earlier incident.

He said the group launched a violent attack on the outpost, apparently misidentifying the complainants and NSCDC staff as responsible for the assailant’s death.

Abdullahi emphasized that none of the Corps’ officers had any involvement in the incident.

“For the avoidance of doubt, none of civil defence personnel was a party to the happening. What is certain and for sure is that those involved had attempted to report a phone robbery attack in our office as security agency at Semegu but they were violently attacked together with our staff in the area. The NSCDC never maimed neither had they killed any suspected thug in the area.”

To ensure a fair and thorough probe, he confirmed that the case has now been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Kano State Police Command for detailed investigation.
