The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has launched the third phase of its Basic Arms and Weapon Handling Training for 200 officers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as part of efforts to improve response to criminal threats and protect critical national infrastructure.
The eight-week intensive training program was formally declared open on Friday at the NSCDC FCT Command headquarters, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, by the FCT Commandant, Dr. Olusola Odumosu.
Commandant Odumosu said the exercise is a strategic step toward equipping officers with the combat and tactical skills required to confront emerging security challenges across the territory.
He reminded the trainees of their responsibility to safeguard public infrastructure, urging them to take the training seriously and maintain professionalism throughout the course.
“This training is what you need to fight criminality and defend yourselves when attacked during operations,” Odumosu said, adding that outstanding participants would be recognized for their performance during the passing-out parade.
He emphasized that regular training and retraining remain crucial to the Corps’ success and warned that discipline and focus would be closely monitored during the program.
The arms training comes amid rising security concerns in the FCT, highlighting the Corps’ ongoing efforts to strengthen its presence and capacity across the territory.
