Certainly, Commandant Gbenga Agun, the Helmsman of the Edo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, is an exemplary security operative when it comes to service delivery and stewardship. That Gbenga is a highly productive and outstanding ambassador of the NSCDC in Edo State is a fact that has been firmly established within and beyond the state, especially among his peers—security commanders in the State.
Several sources readily describe Gbenga Agun as a highly consummate civil defender who places high value on ethical standards in the line of duty. This attests to why his principal and mentor, the highly revered Commandant General of the NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, holds him in high trust and confidence as a significant asset to the Corps.
Gbenga’s transformative initiative since he assumed duties as Commandant of the Edo establishment cuts across all spheres of the Corps. He has embarked on various developmental initiatives aimed at invigorating both human resources and physical assets for greater efficiency, including the repair of numerous official vehicles that had been non-functional for years.
Independent investigation has, in the same vein, revealed how the Gbega Agun-led NSCDC Command in Edo State has doubled the number of arrests and prosecutions of criminal suspects since assuming duties in the state. He has also been working tirelessly to ensure total compliance with statutory laws in the Edo State mining sector, specifically waging war against illegal mining and ensuring full compliance with the documentation requirements for mining firms.
Before his current position, Ggenga Agun, an alumnus of both the University of Ilorin and the University of Lagos with a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree, respectively, held various positions at the Ekiti NSCDC, including Divisional Officer, Head of Planning and Research, Head of Anti-Vandal, Head of Disaster Management, Head of Operations, Head of the Training Department, Head of Asset Monitoring and Management, Area Commander, Assistant Commandant of Operations at NHQ, and Deputy Commandant of Operations at NHQ.
