The Special Intelligence Squad, SIS, of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has foiled an attempt by vandals to steal crude oil in Abia State.

A statement by CSC Afolabi Babawale, National Public Relations Officer at the NSCDC National Headquarters, Abuja, said that the squad, acting on credible intelligence, arrived at the location and discovered a heavy spillage of crude oil from the vandalised portion of the pipeline, where the vandals had connected a valve into the surrounding surface.

The statement noted that the location was cordoned off until the arrival of the technical, maintenance, and environmental safety teams of the Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited, PINL, who swiftly repaired the damaged pipeline and carried out a cleanup of the spillage.

It further stated that no arrests were made, but the SIS Squad has deployed an intelligence component with a view to unravelling the unscrupulous elements responsible for this act of economic sabotage.
