The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, over the deployment of a new Nigerian Army battalion and an artillery regiment to Kano State, describing the development as a significant step towards strengthening security in the state and the North-West region.
The two military formations comprise the 24 Battalion, established in Tudun Wada, and the 311 Artillery Regiment, located in Dambatta. Senator Barau described their deployment as a strategic intervention that demonstrates the Federal Government’s determination to tackle banditry, terrorism and other forms of violent criminality across the country. In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, the Deputy Senate President also praised the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for his leadership and efforts to reposition the Nigerian Army to respond more effectively to the country’s evolving security challenges.Barau noted that the establishment of the new military formations reflected President Tinubu’s commitment, as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, to protecting lives and property and restoring peace to communities affected by insecurity.
He equally applauded Governor Yusuf for his commitment to strengthening security in Kano State, stressing that effective cooperation between the state government, the military and other security agencies would be essential to ensuring that the newly established formations achieve their operational objectives. The senator urged residents of Dambatta, Tudun Wada and other communities across Kano State to support the Nigerian Army and other security agencies by providing credible and timely intelligence that could assist in identifying and apprehending criminal elements.
He emphasised that the fight against banditry and other security threats required collective responsibility, urging traditional rulers, community leaders and residents to cooperate with security personnel rather than allow criminals to operate freely within their communities. According to him, community participation remains indispensable to successful security operations, as the military cannot effectively defeat criminal networks without the cooperation and confidence of the people.Barau further assured that the National Assembly, particularly the Senate, would continue to provide the necessary legislative backing and support for adequate funding of the Armed Forces and other security institutions to strengthen their capacity to tackle insecurity across Nigeria.
