Ogun NSCDC hands over 4 suspects to NAPTIP for child trafficking

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Ogun State command has handed over four suspects to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) over alleged child trafficking.

The suspects include the 16-year-old survivor, her mother, 39-year-old Sakirat Aremu, Ogunlaja Ronke, 35 years and Mary Samuel, 50 years.

The mother had allrgedly approved for her child to be trafficked to Libya.

The NSCDC spokesman, Dyke Ogbonnaya said on Tuesday, that the survivor was intercepted in Sokoto state while being trafficked to Libya.

He said, “A case of child trafficking of a survivor and minor, female, 16 years, name withheld was transferred to the National Agency for Prohibition and Traffick in Persons and Other Related Offences Commission (NAPTIP).

“The various involvements and roles of the suspects, Sakirat Aremu, the mother of the survivor and whose consent was also given concerning her being trafficked with the support of Ogunlaja Ronke, female, 35 years and Mary Samuel, female, 50 years amongst others.

“They have been appropriately documented and handed over to NAPTIP for further investigation while the State Command continues to follow up with the matter.”

The State Commandant, Remilekun Ekundayo, advised all indigenes and inhabitants of the Gateway State to live harmoniously and within the confines of the law.

In another development, a 24-year-old hair stylist identified as Friday Gift, was arraigned before the Ago-Iwoye Magistrate Court for stealing and malicious damage of an IPhone XS MAX belonging to her boss.

The defendant was said to have received the said phone as an official phone to capture work being done while working for one Ogunnubi Elizabeth, before running away.

“The defendant was arrested and brought to the Ago-Iwoye Division by the complainant, Ogunnubi Elizabeth and one other Sasore Ekundayo Nimay.

“While at the division, the defendant smashed Sasore Nimay on the face with the iPhone XS MAX leaving her with injuries to her face. The defendant further used her teeth to break the screen of the phone making it unusable,” Ogbonnaya explained.

After completion of investigations, she was charged to court on four counts bordering on Sections 390, 451, 335 and 249 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, Nigeria 2006.

During the proceedings in court, the defendant pleaded not guilty to all count charges and was granted bail while the matter was adjourned to March 17, 2025 for trial.

In the same vein, 33-year-old Ogunmodimu Olanrewaju was arraigned at the Ago-Iwoye Magistrate Court for obtaining a sum of N 600,000 under false pretence.

The spokesman said the defendant, who was supposed to execute a job for the victim, Jimoh Oluwadamilare, blocked him (victim) on the phone after collecting the money.

After thorough investigations, he was charged to the court on a lone count charge bordering on Section 419 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, Nigeria 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty as charged and was granted bail, while the case was adjourned to March 24, 2025 for trial.
