Ebonyi: Police react to officer caught on video threatening passenger with rifle

The Ebonyi State Police Command has strongly condemned the actions of one of its officers caught in a now-viral video brandishing a rifle and engaging in an altercation with a passenger.

The disturbing footage, widely shared on social media, has sparked outrage, as the officer’s behavior is seen as a clear violation of the ethics and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) of the Nigeria Police Force, NPF.

In a statement released on Monday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed that the officer involved has been identified and is currently under investigation. He assured the public that disciplinary action has already been initiated.

CP Anthonia Adaku Uche-Anya, the Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi State, reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for indiscipline and unprofessional conduct. She assured residents that any officer found guilty of misconduct would be held accountable.

As the video continues to spark heated reactions online, many are calling for swift disciplinary measures to ensure that law enforcement officers uphold the highest standards of professionalism and respect for citizens’ rights.
