The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army and Land Component Commander (LCC), Joint Task Force (JTF), South South (SS), Operation DELTA SAFE (OPDS), Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah has charged troops to sustain the existing inter-agency collaboration in their operations. He gave the charge during his maiden operational visit to Headquarters, Sector 3, JTF SS OPDS at Ogoloma in Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State on 11 February 2025.
Speaking further, he charged them to sustain and step up collaboration with other security agencies, adding that all agencies are working for a common goal. He emphasized the importance of the task of protecting critical national infrastructures and assets in the Niger Delta Region. The GOC commended the troops for a job well-done, stressing that there is room for improvement. He urged the troops to continue to devise ingenious ways of keeping oil thieves out of business. He encouraged all the agencies to continue to work in synergy, stressing that collectively they have the capacity to surpass the target set by the Federal Government of Nigeria for increase oil output.
Earlier, the Commander Sector 3 JTF SS OPDS, Brigadier General Sàni Ahmed, while welcoming the GOC, reassured that the Sector will continue to carryout its statutory responsibilities in line with the operational mandate. He stressed that since he assumed command, a lot have been done to stabilise the Sector, in terms of logistics, especially boat maintenance and infrastructural development. He further said a lot is being done to emplace a conducive working environment for troops.
During the visit to Sector 3, the GOC also paid a visit to the palace of the Amanyanabo of the ancient Kingdom of Okochiri, where he visited His Royal Majesty (HRM), King Ateke Michael Tom and formally introduced himself as the new GOC 6 Division. He further stated that he wasn’t unmindful of the critical role played by the traditional rulers in the society. He said he was aware of the role King Ateke played in peace building in Rivers State, urging the royal father to continue to be the revered peace ambassador that he has always being. He emphasized that dialogue remains a veritable platform in peace building, while calling on vandals to desist from their nefarious activities in the interest of the economic growth and development of the nation.
While welcoming the GOC to his palace, HRM, King Ateke Tom said peace is the key to success, adding that without peace we cannot succeed in all our endeavours. He pledged to remain an advocate for peace in his kingdom and beyond. His Majesty expressed his willingness to continue to support security agencies to fight criminality in his kingdom.
