Nigerian Army Arrests Suspected Gunrunner in Taraba, Recovers Weapon

Troops from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, under Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have arrested a suspected gunrunner, Alhaji Adamu Usman in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The suspect was apprehended on January 13, 2025, during a well-planned operation at his home in Maraban Gassol. This followed credible intelligence linking him to illegal arms trafficking.

Brigadier-General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday. During a search of the suspect’s residence, a fabricated submachine gun was recovered.

General Uwa praised the troops for their professionalism and bravery, reaffirming the brigade’s commitment to fighting arms proliferation and ensuring peace in Taraba State.

He also urged residents to continue providing security agencies with reliable information to help tackle security issues.

“The Nigerian Army is determined to protect lives and restore peace across Taraba State and beyond,” Uwa stated.

The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
