The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has pledged to strengthen collaboration with the Human Rights Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ilorin Branch, to promote human rights, uphold the rule of law and enhance access to justice across the state.
The State Commandant, Commandant Abbas Ndah Mohammed, gave the assurance on Friday, October 9, 2026, when he received a delegation of the Committee, led by its Chairperson, Hajia Rasheedat A. Hassan-Aribito, during a courtesy visit to the Command Headquarters in Ilorin.Commandant Abbas welcomed the delegation and expressed the Command’s readiness to establish a productive working relationship with the Committee in pursuit of their shared objectives.
He emphasised the importance of interagency cooperation in strengthening professionalism, promoting accountability, building public trust and improving service delivery.
He noted that sustained engagement among relevant institutions was essential to protecting the rights of citizens and ensuring that public institutions discharged their responsibilities in accordance with the law.
He also reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to partnerships that would contribute to justice, peace and security in Kwara State.In her remarks, the Committee’s Chairperson, Hajia Rasheedat A. Hassan-Aribito, explained that the Committee was established by the newly elected executive of the NBA Ilorin Branch to advance the protection of human rights, civil liberties and the rule of law.She stressed the importance of engaging the NSCDC in efforts to strengthen human rights protection and improve access to justice, noting that cooperation between legal practitioners and security agencies could promote lawful conduct, accountability and greater public confidence in security institutions.Both parties exchanged views on areas of mutual interest and explored ways to establish an effective framework for sustained cooperation.
They agreed that regular engagement and institutional collaboration would be vital to achieving their common goals of protecting fundamental rights, promoting the rule of law and serving the people of Kwara State more effectively.
