The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has arrested two suspected transformer cable vandals and recovered vandalised electrical cables and other items during an intelligence led operation in Tanke Iledu, Ilorin.
The suspects, identified as Nurah Abdullahi, 20, popularly known as Hartabo, and Sherif Abdullahi, 23, were arrested on October 5, 2026, following a credible intelligence tip off that prompted operatives of the Command to launch an operation in the area.
Items recovered during the operation and subsequent search included vandalised transformer cables, cable insulation peels, a Bajaj motorcycle, a saw, a knife and a pair of electrical gloves.
The recovered items are believed to be relevant to the ongoing investigation.Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects may be linked to the alleged vandalisation of electricity infrastructure within the Tanke Iledu community.
The Command said efforts were ongoing to identify and apprehend other individuals suspected of involvement in the criminal activity.The Kwara State Commandant, Commandant Abbas Ndah Mohammed, commended the operatives for their vigilance, professionalism and commitment to protecting critical national infrastructure across the state.
He reaffirmed the Command’s determination to prevent vandals and other criminals from operating freely in Kwara State.Mohammed warned those involved in the destruction and theft of public infrastructure to desist, stressing that such activities threaten public safety, disrupt essential services and undermine socio economic development.
He assured residents that the Command would sustain intelligence driven operations to identify, arrest and investigate individuals involved in acts capable of endangering critical infrastructure.The Commandant further urged residents to support security efforts by providing credible information that could assist in preventing infrastructure vandalism and other criminal activities.
He reiterated the NSCDC’s commitment to protecting government assets and safeguarding the wellbeing of the people of Kwara State.The suspects are expected to be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations and the establishment of a prima facie case, in accordance with the law.
