The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has appointed Commandant Olariche Jonathan Ogueri as the new State Commandant of the Akwa Ibom State Command, in a development expected to usher in a new phase of leadership and operational direction for the Corps in the state.
The appointment comes amid growing expectations for strengthened security operations, improved personnel management and more effective protection of lives, property and critical national assets across Akwa Ibom State.As the new head of the command,
Ogueri is expected to provide strategic leadership for personnel deployed across the state, with particular attention to the protection of critical national infrastructure, prevention of vandalism, intelligence gathering and collaboration with other security agencies.
The NSCDC plays a significant role in safeguarding public infrastructure, including electricity installations, oil and gas facilities, telecommunications equipment and other assets essential to national development.
Akwa Ibom’s economic activities and strategic importance make effective coordination among security agencies particularly important.Ogueri’s emergence also comes at a time when public confidence, professional discipline and effective administration remain essential to the discharge of the Corps’ statutory responsibilities.
His leadership will be expected to promote accountability, operational efficiency and a professional working environment within the command.
The new commandant is also expected to strengthen cooperation with the Akwa Ibom State Government, traditional institutions, community leaders, private sector operators and other relevant stakeholders to address security concerns and improve information sharing.
Community engagement and timely responses to security threats are crucial to preventing criminal activities, particularly the vandalism of public infrastructure and other offences capable of undermining economic activities and public safety.
The appointment provides an opportunity for the command to consolidate its existing achievements, address operational challenges and reinforce the NSCDC’s commitment to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure.
As Ogueri assumes leadership, attention will be focused on the priorities he sets for the command, the effectiveness of his engagement with stakeholders and the practical measures introduced to improve security operations throughout Akwa Ibom State.
