The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has pledged closer collaboration with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), while commending the organisation’s National Chairman and Commander General, Otunba James Udoma, for initiating a comprehensive nationwide database registration and documentation of VGN personnel.
The commendation was made during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria to the Commission’s headquarters. The Chairman of ICPC, Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, was represented by the Director of Public Enlightenment and Education, Mr Demola Bakare, FSI, who received the delegation on behalf of the Commission.
Speaking during the meeting, Bakare underscored the importance of proper identification, documentation and data management within security organisations, noting that credible personnel records are essential for enhancing accountability, transparency, professionalism and effective institutional coordination.
He praised Otunba Udoma for demonstrating visionary leadership through the establishment of a reliable database for VGN members across the country, describing the initiative as a significant milestone in strengthening the organisation’s integrity and boosting public confidence in its operations.
According to him, effective security administration begins with accurate documentation of personnel entrusted with responsibilities within the nation’s security framework. He added that maintaining comprehensive records would promote discipline, accountability and responsible engagement with government institutions and other stakeholders.Bakare further expressed the Commission’s readiness to deepen cooperation with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria in key areas such as public enlightenment, integrity promotion, ethical leadership, anti corruption advocacy and community based initiatives aimed at strengthening good governance and accountability.
He noted that collaboration between public institutions and community based security organisations remains vital in building a culture of integrity and responsible citizenship across the country.Responding, Commander General Otunba James Udoma appreciated the warm reception accorded the VGN delegation and reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to professionalism, accountability and lawful conduct in all its operations.Udoma stated that the ongoing nationwide registration and database project would provide an accurate record of VGN personnel, enhance operational efficiency and strengthen collaboration with government agencies and security stakeholders.
