The Rivers State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr Dennis Lesor Reuben, has called for stronger collaboration between traditional institutions and security agencies to combat vandalism and safeguard critical national assets and infrastructure across the state.Speaking during separate courtesy visits to the Amanyanabo of Okochiri, His Royal Majesty King Michael Ateke Tom, and the Amanyanabo of Kala Ogoloma Ancient Kingdom, His Royal Majesty King Idaminabo Idikisime Olunwa, CON, JP, the Commandant commended traditional rulers for their vital role in maintaining peace and protecting critical national infrastructure within their communities.Dr Reuben used the visits to formally introduce himself as the 16th substantive Commandant of the NSCDC in Rivers State and sought the support, guidance and royal blessings of the monarchs as he begins his tenure.The Commandant highlighted the significant progress made in the fight against illegal bunkering and pipeline vandalism, noting that sustained enforcement efforts had contributed to increased crude oil production and improved government revenue generation.He urged the monarchs to sustain ongoing awareness campaigns against pipeline vandalism and illegal bunkering, stressing that such activities continue to cause severe environmental degradation, pollution and economic losses to the nation.According to him, the support of traditional institutions remains critical in curbing criminal activities, as community leaders are well positioned to mobilise residents and provide credible intelligence that can assist security agencies in maintaining law and order.Dr Reuben therefore appealed to the royal fathers to strengthen their partnership with the NSCDC and other security agencies by encouraging community vigilance and timely reporting of suspicious activities.In his response, King Michael Ateke Tom expressed appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining peace and security within Okrika and its surrounding communities. He also pledged continued support and cooperation with the NSCDC in its efforts to protect critical national assets.Similarly, the Amanyanabo of Kala Ogoloma Ancient Kingdom, King Idaminabo Idikisime Olunwa, CON, JP, welcomed the Commandant and assured him of the palace’s support and collaboration. The monarch also used the occasion to confer honorary membership of his Council of Chiefs on Dr Reuben in recognition of his commitment to security and community development.The visit concluded with the presentation of a commemorative plaque to King Michael Ateke Tom and a photograph session attended by members of the royal households and NSCDC officials.
