Protocols.
I feel highly humbled and privileged to standing here representing the Inspector General of Police at this important public presentation of the book titled “The Defender of the Nation: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Three Years Onslaught Against Insecurity, His Tough Decisions, Sacrifices and Gains,” authored by Mr. Isiaka Mustapha.
Today’s event is not only a literary gathering but also an opportunity for national reflection on leadership, governance, and security management in Nigeria.
Books such as this play a significant role in documenting history, stimulating intellectual discourse, and preserving important national experiences for future referencing by generations to come.
I commend the author for this patriotic effort in critically examining and documenting the security journey of the current administration over the last three years. Constructive documentation and informed public engagement remain essential in strengthening democratic governance and institutional development.
Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, insecurity remains one of the major challenges confronting nations across the globe. Nigeria continues to face threats ranging from terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, cybercrime, communal conflicts, and other forms of organized criminality being perpetuated by non state actors.
Addressing these challenges requires courage, sacrifice, strong leadership, and coordinated national efforts.
Since the assumption of office by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, there has been renewed commitment toward strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture through enhanced inter-agency collaboration, intelligence-driven operations, improved logistics, technological advancement, and support for security institutions.
The Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of the Inspector General of Police, Disu Olatunji Rilwan psc(+), NPM, has remained committed to its constitutional mandate of protecting lives and property, maintaining law and order, and supporting internal security across the country. The Force continues to intensify community policing initiatives, intelligence-led policing, stakeholder engagement, and crime prevention strategies aimed at improving public trust and operational effectiveness.
Distinguished guests, one important lesson from modern security governance is that security cannot be achieved by government alone. Sustainable peace and security require collective responsibility and active partnership between security agencies, communities, traditional institutions, religious leaders, civil society organizations, the media, and citizens.
This is why community participation and timely information sharing remain critical in combating crime. When citizens collaborate with security agencies, criminal elements lose operational space and law enforcement becomes more effective by occupying the liberated space.
Permit me to at this point recognize the sacrifices of members of the armed forces, the Nigeria Police Force, and other security agencies who continue to serve the nation under difficult and dangerous conditions. Many officers have paid the supreme price in defense of Nigeria, while others continue to make enormous daily sacrifices to ensure peace and stability. Their commitment and patriotism deserve our collective appreciation and support.
Ladies and gentlemen, the media equally plays an important role in national security management. Responsible journalism contributes positively toward public enlightenment, national unity, and constructive policy engagement. I therefore commend People Security Monitor for sustaining security-focused journalism and contributing meaningfully to national discourse on security and governance.
As we gather here today, we must continue to promote national unity, peaceful coexistence, and responsible citizenship. Criminality has no ethnic, religious, or political identity. Therefore, all Nigerians must unite in support of lawful authority, democratic institutions, and national peace.
We must also continue investing in our youth through education, mentorship, empowerment, and constructive engagement. Young people remain critical stakeholders in building a peaceful, secure, and prosperous Nigeria.
Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, this book presentation provides another valuable platform for reflection on governance, leadership, and national security. It also reminds us that nation-building is a continuous process requiring sacrifice, dialogue, patriotism, and collective commitment.
On behalf of the Inspector General of Police, I congratulate the author, Mr. Isiaka Mustapha, for this commendable intellectual contribution and patriotic service to the nation. I also appreciate the organizers and all distinguished guests present here today.
It is my hope that this publication will contribute positively to national conversations on security, leadership, and democratic governance in Nigeria.
Thank you for your attention.
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
