The Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has stated that any attempt to stage a coup in Nigeria would amount to a complete waste of effort, stressing that Nigerians would not allow such an undemocratic move to succeed.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Friday, Musa described military officers currently being prosecuted over alleged coup plotting as a โbunch of confused individualsโ, insisting that their actions do not reflect the professionalism expected of the armed forces.
He further maintained that the countryโs democratic institutions remain strong and fully capable of resisting any unconstitutional attempt to seize power. According to him, the armed forces are firmly committed to protecting democracy and upholding constitutional order under the present administration.
Musa also emphasised that the Nigerian military has evolved significantly over the years, with improved oversight, training, and accountability mechanisms in place. He noted that the era of military takeovers is over, adding that both citizens and security institutions remain aligned in support of democratic governance.
