The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Friday paid a working visit to the Edo State Police Command as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen policing operations and enhance security across the state.
During the visit, the IGP held strategic engagements with senior police officers and personnel of the command, stressing the importance of professionalism, intelligence-driven policing, and improved community relations in combating crime and maintaining public order.
As part of his itinerary, the police chief also paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II, the Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo and 40th Oba of the historic Benin Kingdom, at his palace in Benin City.
The meeting between the Inspector-General and the revered monarch focused on the need for stronger collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and traditional institutions in promoting peace, public safety, and grassroots security initiatives within Edo State.
The IGP noted that traditional rulers remain critical stakeholders in intelligence gathering, conflict resolution, and community mobilisation, adding that effective policing can only thrive with the support and cooperation of local communities and traditional authorities.
The visit also provided an opportunity for the Edo State Police Command to brief the Inspector-General on operational achievements, ongoing security challenges, and measures being implemented to improve crime prevention and rapid response across the state.
