Osun Governorship Election: Police Arrest Accord Lawmaker Over Alleged Electoral Fraud

By Samuel Ike, Abuja

The Osun State Police Command has arrested a member of the State House of Assembly, Abiola Ibrahim, over allegations that he imported hundreds of individuals into the state to participate in Saturday’s governorship election.

Ibrahim, an Accord Party lawmaker representing the Irewole/Isokan State Constituency, was apprehended on Friday night during a police operation in Ikire.

According to security sources, the lawmaker was arrested alongside a large group of suspected electoral agents allegedly discovered at his residence.

The police alleged that no fewer than 300 individuals were brought into the area with the intention of participating unlawfully in the governorship poll.

During the operation, security operatives reportedly recovered more than 200 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), raising concerns about possible electoral malpractice.

The police have commenced an investigation into the matter, while authorities are expected to determine the level of involvement of those arrested and whether electoral laws were violated.
