Tragic Blow as Brigade Commander Dies in Borno Clash

By Ahmed Sanni

A senior military officer, Brigade Commander O.O. Braimah, has been killed during a fierce encounter between security forces and suspected terrorists in Borno State.
The incident occurred in Benisheikh, located about 75 kilometres from Maiduguri, in the early hours of Thursday, April 9, 2026. Reports indicate that the troops came under attack while engaging insurgents, leading to an intense exchange of fire during which the senior officer lost his life.
The death of the Brigade Commander is being described as a significant loss to the military, given his leadership role and contributions to ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the North-East. Security sources say efforts are ongoing to stabilise the area and prevent further attacks.
Military authorities are yet to release full details surrounding the incident, but reinforcements have reportedly been deployed to the area to sustain pressure on the attackers. The Nigerian Armed Forces have also reaffirmed their commitment to continuing operations aimed at restoring peace and security across the region.
