The Nigerian Army on Saturday held a full-dress pull-out parade at the Supply and Transport Barracks in Benin City, Edo State, in honour of Major General Erema Akerejola, who has retired after decades of distinguished service.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Army described the ceremony as marking his formal exit from active duty.
The event drew family members, friends, and senior military officers, all gathered to witness the traditional end-of-tour ceremony. Troops marched in precise formation, while a bugler sounded the final call, symbolising the general’s transition into retirement.
Colleagues described the occasion as deeply emotional, with tributes pouring in from both serving and retired personnel who praised his leadership and service record.
Throughout his career, Major General Akerejola held key positions in logistics and field operations. He made significant contributions to counter-insurgency efforts in the North-East and played a vital role in reforms that strengthened the Army’s transport and supply systems.
Senior officers at the ceremony hailed him as a disciplined and courageous leader whose commitment to national unity and operational excellence inspired both subordinates and peers.
The event concluded with the traditional slow drive through the ranks, as the retired general, seated in an open-top staff vehicle, acknowledged cheers from officers and soldiers.
For many in attendance, the ceremony went beyond military tradition, serving as a moment of appreciation for a distinguished career that spanned the tenures of four Chiefs of Army Staff.
