By Tunji Braimoh, Abuja

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command, has entered into a strategic partnership with the Ondo State Prevent Council aimed at enhancing conflict prevention, dispute resolution, mediation, and peacebuilding initiatives across the state.
The partnership was formalised during a courtesy visit by members of the Ondo State Prevent Council to the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Commandant Oluyemi Joshua Ibiloye, JP, at the Command Headquarters in Akure on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.
The delegation was led by the Chairman of the Council, His Eminence, Alhaji Dr. Abdulhakeem Yayi Akorede, JP, who highlighted the Council’s commitment to promoting peaceful coexistence and addressing emerging security and social challenges through collaborative engagement.
According to him, the visit was designed to strengthen cooperation with the NSCDC in resolving disputes within communities and local government areas across Ondo State, while also facilitating the establishment of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Committees in all 18 local government areas of the state.
Speaking during the engagement, Alhaji Akorede noted that the Council had identified several emerging concerns with the potential to threaten peace and security if not promptly addressed. He stressed that effective responses to such challenges require the collective efforts of government institutions, security agencies, traditional rulers, civil society groups, and other stakeholders.
“Our goal is to complement the efforts of the Police and other security agencies through community sensitisation, early warning mechanisms, mediation, and advocacy for peace at all levels,” he stated.
He further disclosed that the Council plans to deepen its engagement with other critical institutions, including the Office of the Governor, the Ministry of Justice, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), and various civil society organisations, in order to build a broad-based platform for conflict prevention and resolution.
In his response, Commandant Oluyemi Joshua Ibiloye expressed appreciation to the Council for recognising the NSCDC as a key stakeholder in the promotion of peace and security in Ondo State. He described the initiative as timely and necessary, noting that sustainable development can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace and stability.
The Commandant observed that chieftaincy disputes, communal disagreements, and title-related conflicts remain significant challenges in some parts of the state, underscoring the need for proactive mediation and dialogue-driven solutions.
“With this committee in place, our job becomes easier. I fully support this initiative. Feel free to call on me whenever you require my input or operational support. I am confident that this committee will make a significant impact in promoting peace and resolving conflicts across the state,” he said.
Commandant Ibiloye assured the Council of the Command’s readiness to provide all necessary support within its statutory mandate to advance peaceful coexistence, strengthen community security, and prevent disputes from escalating into major security threats.
He further emphasised that effective collaboration among stakeholders would improve early-warning responses, facilitate timely intervention in emerging conflicts, and contribute significantly to the maintenance of law and order throughout Ondo State.
Members of the delegation included His Royal Majesty, Oba Babatunde Olaleye, the Oluboropa of Iboropa Akoko; High Chief Pius Akomolafe, Coordinator of the Ondo State PIND Project; and Pathfinder Matthew Ogunmolawa, Secretary of the Council.
The NSCDC Ondo State Command reaffirmed its commitment to fostering strategic partnerships with relevant stakeholders in pursuit of lasting peace, enhanced security, conflict prevention, and sustainable development across Ondo State.
