The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), National Headquarters, Abuja, has appointed Otunba James Udoma as the new Commander General of the organisation.
The appointment follows the death of the former Commander General, Navy Capt. Umar AB Bakori (Rtd.), whose passing created a leadership vacancy within the organisation.
After due deliberations, the NEC approved the appointment of Otunba Udoma to provide strategic leadership and direction as the Vigilante Group of Nigeria continues to support community security, intelligence gathering, crime prevention and the broader efforts of Nigeria’s security agencies.
As Commander General, Udoma is expected to build on the institutional legacy of his predecessor while strengthening unity, discipline, professionalism and operational effectiveness across the various commands and formations of the VGN.
His appointment comes at a time when community-based security structures are increasingly expected to complement the efforts of conventional security agencies through timely information gathering, community engagement and support for crime prevention initiatives.
The new Commander General is also expected to consolidate cooperation between the VGN and relevant government and security institutions while promoting responsible and lawful community security operations.
Further details concerning the formal transition, including the official assumption of office and other arrangements, will be communicated by the National Headquarters.
The National Executive Council congratulates Otunba James Udoma on his appointment and wishes him a successful tenure as Commander General of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria.
