The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting Team Nigeria’s preparations for the 2026 Commonwealth Games after being unveiled as an ambassador by the National Sports Commission.
Adeniyi noted that the initiative would enhance the support system available to Nigerian athletes, stressing that strong collaboration among key stakeholders remains vital to achieving success on the global stage. The Games are scheduled to take place in Glasgow from July 23 to August 2, 2026.
He commended the National Sports Commission for the strategic move, describing it as a step in the right direction toward boosting athletes’ morale and ensuring adequate preparation ahead of the competition. According to him, empowering athletes through institutional backing and mentorship will significantly improve their chances of excelling at the Games.
The Customs boss also assured that the Nigeria Customs Service would continue to explore avenues to contribute to sports development in the country, emphasizing that sports remain a unifying force and a platform for projecting Nigeria’s image globally. He urged corporate organisations and well-meaning Nigerians to rally behind Team Nigeria to ensure a successful outing in Glasgow.
